Crime news and statistics still unavailable despite police warning public of spike in crime over holiday

A week before Christmas Eve, CBC published a warning from Ottawa Police, about the inevitable spike of crime over Christmas and the holidays, prompting citizens to increase awareness in order to help avoid becoming victims.  Despite these reports, almost four days since the start of the holidays, data regarding any crime in the city at all has become scarce.

London, ON: Suspect shot to death in police standoff, SIU investigates


In the early morning hours of Friday. December 23rd 2016, London Police were in a standoff which eventually resulted in the death of a local man, 35 year old Samuel Maloney. See the full story here.

Suspect to be identified following home invasion on Lyon Street

From OttawaPolice.ca - On November 17, 2016, at approximately 9:25pm, two suspects attended the door to a room within a building situated along the 200 block of Lyon Street. When the occupant came to the door, he was sprayed to the face with a fire extinguisher, and then pushed to the floor. The suspects made a demand for prescription drugs thought to be on hand.

Ottawa Police issue warrant for the arrest of Mathew Land, 34


The Ottawa Police Service Central Criminal Investigation Unit is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Mathew LAND.  He is the suspect in an aggravated assault investigation in the 200 block of Desrosiers Street in Vanier yesterday. Two people were injured and transported to a local hospital.
