Crime news and statistics still unavailable despite police warning public of spike in crime over holiday

A week before Christmas Eve, CBC published a warning from Ottawa Police, about the inevitable spike of crime over Christmas and the holidays, prompting citizens to increase awareness in order to help avoid becoming victims.  Despite these reports, almost four days since the start of the holidays, data regarding any crime in the city at all has become scarce.
No data for Ottawa past the 20th of December is available on crimereports.com and searches for crime news which typically yield results seven days a week from the usual media outlets, are now completely lacking the information that could help citizens.

Ottawa Crime blog sought contact today with Media Relations at Ottawa Police for a follow up comment on their December 17th announcement, but was met with voicemail greetings informing  callers of an office-wide closure in effect until the morning of the 28th.

While we fully agree that Police and their staff deserve time off over the holidays, we are left desiring even some form of automated, or open access to data for the general public.

Tune in tomorrow for our summary of the crime reports from over the Christmas holiday and outlook for New Year's  2017.
